I-394 Corridor Study

Golden Valley's Comprehensive Plan provides a blueprint for long-term land use in the city, and every 10 years (as required by State law) the City Council revisits that plan.

With a revised Comprehensive Plan due in 2008, the City Council has focused on developing a vision for the land along I-394 (from Hwy 100 to Rhode Island Ave S).

The City Council determined that a land-use study of the area would allow it to manage change through updated zoning. This means studying what's there now and getting community input to create an updated plan for the area, complete with updated zoning land use regulations. As directed by the City Council, City staff hired a consultant (URS Corp) to help conduct the study and develop a plan for community involvement.

The draft I-394 Corridor Study Report was presented to the City Council and Planning Commission in February 2007.The Council requested that property owners in the study area (south of Laurel Ave, north of I-394, east of Rhode Island, west of Turner’s Crossroad, and additionally, the commercially zoned property between Turner’s Crossroad and Hwy 100) be informed about the findings.

In December 2008, the I-394 Mixed Use Zoning District was created and implemented by the City Council. The mixed use vision described in the study are now being implemented in zoning criteria.

For more information regarding the I-394 Mixed Use Zoning District, contact the Planning Department at 763-593-8095 or planning@ci.golden-valley.mn.us.
