Maintaining Your Yard
City Code requires residents to keep their lawns mowed and maintained during the growing season. The City will notify residents who violate this ordinance. If no action is taken by the resident to correct the violation, the City will have the property mowed and bill the resident for the needed work. Managing Yard Waste
State law prohibits disposal of yard, brush, and tree waste in landfills or solid waste facilities. Ask your garbage hauler about cost and procedure for yard waste disposal.
Golden Valley's recycling program includes a three-week curbside brush pick-up in May and a two-weekend leaf drop-off program in the fall, as long as funds are available. Specific information is published in the City newsletter, and reminder postcards are mailed to residents before the programs begin. You may also haul yard waste to the following disposal facility:
Maple Grove Yard Waste Site
Take lawn and garden waste to the Maple Grove Yard Waste Site, 14796 101 Ave N, Maple Grove (call 763-420-4400 for directions). Open April 1 - November 30, Monday - Saturday, 8 am to 7 pm and Sunday, noon to 7 pm.
Grass is accepted for $13/cubic yard June through September, $7/cubic yard in April, May, October, and November (add $2/cubic yard for mixed material such as leaves). Brush up to 1 1/2 inch in diameter accepted for $7/cubic yard. For 33 gallon trash bags, it is $.75 per bag from June-September. If the bag contains grass, it is $1.25 per bag. Material must be de-bagged at site, and bags must be removed.
