Fence Requirements

• Entire fence structure must be on the owner’s side of the property line.
• Fences more than six feet high require a building permit.
• Fences six feet high and less do not require a permit.
• Visibility must be maintained at all street intersections. According to Zoning Ordinance Section 7.04, Subdivision 2 (Corner Visibility), it is a misdemeanor for any person to erect, construct, plant, nurture, or maintain any building, structure, or vegetation (other than shade trees trimmed to the trunk at least 10 feet above the curb line) within the corner visibility zone. The corner visibility zone is that area between the right-of-way lines of intersecting streets and a line joining points on such lines 25 feet distant from their point of intersection, or in the case of a rounded corner, the point of intersection of the tangents.
