City Street and Sidewalk System
Street maintenance is one of the biggest, and costliest, responsibilities of City government. It's also one of the most necessary. Golden Valley must keep approximately 120 miles of streets at an adequate level of service and safety.
Because streets deteriorate as they age, it takes more time and money to maintain them in an acceptable manner. Golden Valley's Pavement Management Program (PMP) recommends rehabilitating streets that require costlier ongoing maintenance. Staff then systematically manages further maintenance (sealcoating and overlays) on the new pavement to provide a longer street lifespan at the lowest possible cost to the taxpaying public.
