Dave Combs, firefighter

Dave, New Recruit 1992

Dave Comb saw the Golden Valley Fire Department as a way to get involved in the community. His main concern: Would they be interested in someone over 40?

They were, and 16 years later he still enjoys the pride, accomplishment, and camaraderie that comes from working with a team dedicated to a worthwhile goal.

He also learned new skills, cemented friendships, and maintained a sense of vitality he says results from being with people of all ages and backgrounds.

“The fire service has done for me more than I could ever have imagined,” Comb adds.

Golden Valley Paid On-Call Firefighters

For more than 60 years, the Golden Valley residents have relied on so-called ordinary people to protect our community. Today, Golden Valley has three fire stations, 50 paid, on-call firefighters, and a full-time fire chief, deputy fire marshal, public education specialist/training coordinator, and administrative assistant. The Fire Department responds to about 750 - 800 runs per year, including all types of fires, emergencies, auto accidents, medicals, and mutual aid calls to other communities.
